1. John WOODGATE. Born ? 1370. John died ? 1450; he was 80.
In 1382 a John Woodgate was living in Penshurst. In 1435, he hired lands called Hawden Mead and 60 acres of pasture. He is mentioned as a feoffee (trustee) of Lands in Leigh, Tonbridge, Penshurst and Chiddingstone under a deed dated 20 Jan 1433. page7. The pedigree chart in the Woodgate Family History suggests that he was married to the daughter of Walter Darkynholl and Agnes Slighter of Salmans Farm but the Darknall Family History has this couple living from 1420-1507 - their daughter was probably born after John Woodgate's death ! She may have married son John or grandson John neither of whose spouses are named in .

Served with Jack Cade in 1540 as did his son John (jnr). "Late deceased" in 1459 pedigree sheet 1. He conveyed lands at Tonbridge and at Swaynislond (Swaylands) Penshurst to Richard Hammond who conveyed them in 1459 to John Moyse. John and his brother William were trustees of the will of Robert Ludwill of Cowden dated 30 Dec 1456. page 8.

Owned lands called Babefeld, held of the Manor of Chiddingstone Burghersh in 1477, in 1477. In 1490 he was owner of the Leas, Greffield (Grottfield) and the Marle, all held of the same manor. In 1488 he, with John Ware and Richard Ashdown, were feofees of Walter Darknoll of Hawden. In 1488, he along with William his son and John Ware (senior and junior), Thomas Ware and Robert Bery bought Larkins from Thomas Pygot. This was later confirmed by brother Nicholas Pygot of Leigh in 1512 (U 908 T13/7). William Woodgate was buried in Chiddingstone Parish Church.

81. Rev. Thomas STREATFEILD F.S.A. Born in 1777. Thomas died on 17 May 1848; he was 71. Occupation: Antiquarian, Curate of Tatsfield, Surrey.
Was first Curate at Long, Ditton, Surrey, then chaplain to the Duke of Kent and later curate at Tatsfield, Surrey. Whilst at Tatsfield he bought land in the ajoining parish of Westerham, Kent and biult a house there - Chart’s Edge - to his own design in 1822.
He devoted much time to a history of Kent but only one volume was ever published (Hundred of Blackheath) - some 50 volumes of his unpublished material are lodged in the British Museum.
Composed his own inscription on the wall tablet in Chiddingstone Church.
In 1800 when Thomas was 23, he first married Harriet CHAMPION. Born in 1775. Harriet died in 1814; she was 39.
