THE LOST HOUSES OF CHIDDINGSTONE

The most well known 'lost ' houses are those that made up the second half of the High Street and were pulled down when High Street House was converted into Chiddingstone Castle. These include Ware House, The Red House and the Ashdown House. The little House at the church gate has also disappeared.
Aside from the highstreet, the other famous missing house is the original Manor of Chiddingstone Burgherst. There are several farmhouses that exist in historical records but have disappeared today. These include the Dower House otherwise known as Highfields, Lew Cross and Geers. Ivy House was demolished to make the reservour at Bough Beech and Bayleaf farmhouse was dismantled and moved to the Weald and Downland museum in Sussex.
